Christmas Baubles with Laura Swensen
Welcome to the world of appliqué with Mistyfuse, a versatile and user-friendly fusible web that opens up endless creative possibilities. In this class, you will learn the fundamental techniques of appliqué, a method of sewing or bonding fabric pieces onto a larger fabric background to create intricate designs and patterns. Mistyfuse is a popular choice among crafters and quilters because of its lightweight, sheer quality, which allows for a smooth and flexible finish without adding bulk to your project.
1 ¼ yards for background, border, and binding
¼ yard of accent fabric for scalloped border
20 assorted 5" squares for circles or a (charm pack)
1 ¼ yards 20" wise Mistyfuse
1 ¼ yards backing
Goddess sheet (or Teflon)
Christmas Baubles pattern
Hearts and More templates A,B,C and D- (optional but preferred)
28mm rotary cutter with a sharp blade***
Large square acrylic ruler (at least 16" to 24")
Thread to match fabrics for piecing and applique
Basic sewing supplies, marking fabric pen or chalk
ALL fabric MUST be washed before fusing!!
Please have 5" squares fused before class if possible and ¼ accent fabric!
*Do not put charm squares in the washing machine- hand wash!
Please cut the following from background fabric before class:
Cut 2 @ 2 ½” x 28 ½” for top and bottom borders
Cut 2 @ 2 ½” x 36 ½” for side borders
Cut 4 @ 4 ¼” x WOF for binding and set aside
Cut 1 @ 25" x 37" for center panel & cut 1 @ 2 ½” x 4" for tree trunk
Wash and press all fabrics
